Peter Obi: No One Is Doing NDC A Favour By Contesting On Its Platform – Dickson

The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has declared that the party does not rely on any individual for survival or prominence.

According to him, nobody is doing the NDC a favour by contesting the 2027 presidency or any other position on its platform.

The former Bayelsa State Governor submitted that rather, it is the party that is doing aspirants a favour by providing a platform for them to actualize their political ambitions.

Naija News reports that Dickson, who spoke on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television, also dismissed recent attempts by some persons and their supporters to criticise how the party affairs are being managed, saying that if it is easy, they should go and form their own parties too.

He specifically said it’s not acceptable to support Peter Obi while disparaging him as the party’s leader.

According to him, he could also have contested the 2027 presidency, but for some reason, he decided not to.

In his words, “I could have run. Listen to me, Charles. This is a narrative that has to be carefully managed before you people make others to feel bad.

“Before you guys make others to feel bad. Okay? There’s no one more qualified than me to run for president of Nigeria. None. You are talking of names because they have tried. Okay? And for some reasons, I did not want to. So don’t make it look like anyone is doing NDC a favour.”

The statement comes in the wake of reports that some supporters of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, criticized the NDC leadership over a directive mandating that all campaign funds be routed strictly through official party structures.

Dickson asserted that no one is more qualified than him to run for the office of Nigeria’s president, dismissing insinuations that the party relies on some new entrants for popularity.

“No one is. Rather, the NDC and I and my colleagues are doing people a favour by granting our platform to them. And that narrative is important. You cannot be supporting Peter Obi if you are genuinely supporting him, and you are disparaging me, the leader, or the platform itself. That is nonsensical. If it were easy for people to form a party, well form yours. If it were easy,” Dickson declared.
