1. Atiku Was Part Of Rotational Presidency Agreement – Akume
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has disclosed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was among the political leaders who supported a rotational presidency following the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.
Naija News reports that Akume stated this on Tuesday while responding to questions at a World Press Conference in Abuja, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 27th Democracy Day anniversary.
According to the SGF, the annulment of the June 12 election, won by the late Chief MKO Abiola, prompted political leaders to take difficult decisions aimed at preserving national unity and strengthening democracy.
He recalled that leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met in Kaduna under the leadership of the late Solomon Lar and Adamu Ciroma to deliberate on the country’s political future, with the issue of power rotation featuring prominently.
2. Peter Obi Drags Former Loyalists, Kenneth Okonkwo To Court
The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has dragged his former loyalist and kinsman, Kenneth Okonkwo, to court.
Naija News reports that following Obi’s defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Okonkwo has repeatedly levelled accusations against the former Anambra governor.
According to a suit filed by Obi’s legal counsel, Okonkwo alleged that Obi and others collected a bribe of ₦10 million from House of Representatives aspirants.
However, in the suit dated June 9, 2026, and signed by Chief Alex Ejesieme (SAN) of Alex Ejesieme (SAN) & Co. (Madiba Chambers), Obi described Okonkwo’s allegations as fabricated and damaging.
3. House Of Reps Picks Date To Vote On State Police Creation
The House of Representatives has picked Thursday, 11th June, as the date to vote on a constitutional amendment bill seeking to establish State Police in Nigeria.
Naija News reports that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee, Benjamin Kalu, made the disclosure while speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.
He charged all lawmakers to attend Thursday’s plenary to participate in the vote.
According to the lawmaker, the move is part of measures to address rising insecurity in the country. Kalu explained during the press briefing that the House has decided to prioritise the issue of state police ahead of other bills.
He said the House has directed all members who are currently out of Abuja for oversight to suspend such and return to the parliament on Thursday for the voting procedure.
4. Police Repel Attack On Kogi School, Begin Manhunt For Fleeing Bandits
The Kogi State Police Command has said its operatives repelled an attack by armed bandits who invaded Iluke community in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of the state.
Naija News reports that the attack occurred on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, while students of Government Secondary School, Iluke Bunu, were sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination English Language paper.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Adusat Salihu, the command said the attackers stormed the school and surrounding community with the intention of abducting students and residents.
According to the police, a distress call was received around 10 am that a large number of armed men operating on about 40 motorcycles had invaded the area.
The Divisional Police Officer of Kabba “A” Division immediately mobilised officers alongside personnel of the Police Mobile Force and tactical units.
Military personnel and local vigilante groups in the area also joined the response operation.
The joint security team engaged the attackers in a gun duel, forcing them to flee into nearby bushes.
The command confirmed that three persons were killed during the attack.
5. I Never Told Kenneth Okonkwo That Peter Obi Asked Me To Pay ₦10 Million – Ohaegbu
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) House of Representatives aspirant for Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Obunike Ohaegbu, aka Nwa Miss, has dismissed fraud allegations levelled against the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Naija News reports that Obi had sued Okonkwo following allegations that he (Obi) and other party leaders in the South-East had accepted bribes during the recent primary elections.
Okonkwo, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), asserted that Ohaegbu sent him an “SOS message” revealing the purported fraud surrounding the primaries’ results.
Reacting to Okonkwo’s claims on Channels Television, Ohaegbu said he never told Okonkwo that he met Obi all through the primary election process and never had any monetary discussion with the former governor of Anambra State.
6. Gov Adeleke, Sister, Aides Fall As Overcrowded Stage Collapses At Campaign Rally
There was panic on Wednesday after a stage collapsed during the inauguration of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election canvassers in Ijebu-Jesa, Ori-Ade Local Government Area of Osun State.
Naija News understands that the incident occurred while the governor was attending the event alongside his sister, Chief Modupe Adeleke, Chief of Staff Kazeem Akinleye and other top government officials.
The dignitaries were seated on the stage when the structure suddenly gave way, causing several people to fall.
Governor Adeleke had arrived at the venue with members of his entourage and was received by the spokesperson for his re-election campaign council, Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi.
The stage was heavily crowded with political appointees, party members, aides and security operatives.
The situation reportedly became worse when many of those on the platform stood up simultaneously during the programme.
Adeleke rose from his seat to acknowledge and cheer supporters gathered at the venue.
7. Lagos Is More Expensive Than Los Angeles – BNXN
Nigerian singer Daniel Benson, popularly known as BNXN, has claimed that cost of living in Lagos is more expensive than Los Angeles in United States.
Naija News reports that the singer made the claim during a recent livestream on TikTok.
The singer said that aside from regular bills, life in the US feels more structured and less stressful compared to Lagos, noting the absence of street-level pressure such as unsolicited requests for money.
Speaking during a recent livestream on TikTok, BNXN said, “I was telling someone, since I got to the United States, nobody has asked me to give them money. And people are also suffering here.
“Lagos is super expensive. It is more expensive than Los Angeles. Aside from housing, every other thing in LA is not expensive. For instance, I am paying $12,000 monthly for my rent. Here you just pay your rent, and you’re good.”
8. Celebrities Attend Alex Ekubo’s Service Of Songs
Top Nigerian celebrities from the movie, music and generally the entertainment industry on Wednesday attended the service of songs of late actor Alex Ekubo.
Naija News recalls that Alex died on May 11, 2026, after battling complications linked to advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
Ekubo died at Evercare Hospital, Lekki, Lagos State.
Alex Ekubo’s family had in a statement announced his funeral details.
9. Benfica Confirm Real Madrid’s Appointment Of Jose Mourinho
Jose Mourinho is set for a sensational return to Real Madrid after Benfica confirmed the Portuguese manager will leave the club in a €15 million compensation deal to take charge of the Spanish giants.
The move ends weeks of speculation linking Mourinho with a return to the Santiago Bernabeu, where he previously spent three seasons between 2010 and 2013.
Benfica announced on Tuesday that they had informed the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM) that Real Madrid had “formalised” their intention to appoint Mourinho and that the coach had “given his agreement” to the move.
The agreement will see the Primeira Liga club receive €15m in compensation.

A US official has disclosed the reason Somali referee Omar Artan was denied entry into the United States, a decision that ultimately ruled him out of officiating at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Artan, 34, had been set to make history as the first Somali referee to work at a World Cup finals after being selected among 52 match officials for the tournament.
