I Don’t Believe The Nigerian Government Is Incompetent In Dealing With Insecurity – May Edochie
May Edochie, former wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has expressed concern over the worsening security situation in the country, particularly the increasing cases of kidnapping and attacks by bandits.
In a post shared on Instagram on June 6, May stated that she does not believe the Nigerian government lacks the ability to tackle insecurity.
According to her, the authorities are fully aware of the problem and possess the resources needed to confront it.
Naija News reports that the entrepreneur questioned why many innocent Nigerians continue to suffer despite the government’s ability to address the crisis.
She noted that kidnapping and violent attacks have created fear in many homes and communities across the country.
May said many families now live in constant anxiety as insecurity continues to affect daily life.
She added that the situation has left emotional scars on victims and their loved ones while also discouraging many Nigerians living abroad from returning home.
She maintained that citizens deserve more than repeated assurances. She said people are expecting practical measures that will improve security, protect lives, and restore confidence among the population.
The mother of three also pointed to the country’s handling of past health emergencies, including the Ebola outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic, as proof that Nigeria can successfully respond to major national challenges when there is strong coordination and commitment.
She wrote: “I strongly do not believe the Nigerian government is incompetent in dealing with kidnapping and banditry. The government is aware of the problem and has the capacity to address it effectively. The question remains: Why must innocent citizens continue to suffer the devastating consequences of insecurity?
“Nigeria demonstrated remarkable capacity during the Ebola outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic. These experiences showed that when there is urgency, coordination, and commitment, Nigeria can respond effectively to major national crises.
“This is a call on the government to apply the same level of determination, coordination, and strategic action to the fight against kidnapping, bandits, and insecurity.”
