Florentino Pérez Hails José Mourinho Return To Real Madrid
Fresh from winning re-election as Real Madrid president until 2030, Florentino Pérez used his victory speech to spotlight the return of José Mourinho, describing the Portuguese as one of the world’s finest coaches and a true madridista.
Naija News reports that Pérez, who secured 65 per cent of the vote in the club’s presidential election, outlined his vision for the years ahead and made Mourinho’s comeback one of the central themes of his address.
Speaking to supporters after the result was confirmed, the veteran club chief linked Real Madrid’s future ambitions to both the revamped Santiago Bernabéu and the return of the former manager.
“We will continue to take pride in the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, the best stadium in the world. Proud to have the best players in the world, proud to welcome back one of the best coaches in the world, a madridista like José Mourinho,” he said.
The comments reflect Pérez’s confidence that Mourinho’s return can help drive the club towards further success as it pursues more domestic and European honours.
Mourinho, who previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, remains one of the most influential figures in the club’s modern history. During his first spell, he won a La Liga title, a Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup while helping to re-establish Madrid as a major force in Europe.
Pérez also reiterated the club’s determination to continue competing for the biggest trophies.
“We will continue working so that Real Madrid keeps winning titles, and we will fight until the end to achieve the sixteenth European Cup,” he said.
The Real Madrid president secured another six-year mandate after polling 21,741 votes, comfortably ahead of challenger Enrique Riquelme, who received 11,814 votes.
While much of Pérez’s speech focused on the club’s independence and member-owned structure, his public endorsement of Mourinho stood out as a clear statement of confidence in the coach as Real Madrid prepare for a new chapter.
The 78-year-old also called for unity among supporters following the election and pledged to represent all members, including those who backed his opponent.
“We must stay united, driven by our passion for Real Madrid. To those who did not vote for me, I will do everything possible to address your concerns.”
