Aiyedatiwa Reacts To Court Judgement On Owo Church Attackers

The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has welcomed the court judgement on the four individuals found guilty of involvement in the June 5, 2022 terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo.

The Governor, in a statement on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the judgement is a confirmation that those who take innocent lives will face justice regardless of how long it takes.

Naija News recalls that Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, had earlier on Wednesday, sentenced four persons to death by hanging for their roles in the Owo church attack.

The court delivered the judgment after finding the defendants guilty in the terrorism case brought against them by the Department of State Services (DSS).

In his reaction, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the verdict as a victory for justice, the rule of law, and the families of victims affected by the deadly attack that claimed dozens of lives and left many worshippers injured.

The governor commended the efforts of investigators, prosecutors, and the judiciary for ensuring that those responsible for the heinous crime were brought to justice.

According to him, the judgment demonstrates the government’s resolve not to tolerate acts of terrorism, violence, or attacks on innocent citizens.

“This judgment sends a strong message that those who take innocent lives will face the full weight of the law, regardless of how long it takes to secure justice,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa also commended the people of Owo and members of the Catholic community, for remaining peaceful despite the trauma and pain caused by the attack.

He assured residents that his administration would continue to collaborate with security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve public safety, and prevent a recurrence of such tragic incidents in the state.

While noting that no judgment can restore the lives lost, the governor said the court’s decision offers a measure of closure to grieving families and reinforces public confidence in the justice system.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of those who died in the attack and asked God to continue to comfort their families and loved ones.
