Any License Given To Him Is Dangerous – Sowore Warns Tinubu Against Empowering Sunday Igboho

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has warned the Federal Government against giving official security responsibilities to Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Igboho or other non-state actors.

Naija News reports that he said such a move could create problems for human rights and democratic accountability.

Sowore spoke in Abuja on Tuesday after joining a large protest against the worsening security situation across Nigeria. The demonstration was driven by concerns over rising cases of kidnappings and attacks, including the recent abduction of pupils, teachers and a school principal in Oyo State.

While speaking with journalists, the activist acknowledged that Igboho already has loyal supporters and an existing security network capable of carrying out operations without government backing.

However, he argued that granting formal security powers to individuals or groups operating outside established state institutions would create serious challenges.

According to him, once security duties are handed to non-state actors, it becomes difficult to ensure that their activities comply with human rights standards.

He said: “Yes. Sunday Igboho already had his own team. Even before he was attacked.

“He can deploy before the president asks him to. But my problem with all of this is that the moment you start empowering non-state actors to take up the job of security, then you cannot guarantee human rights.

“You cannot impose upon them and enforce operational protocols that are of national and international standard.

“A Sunday Igboho who is already saying that somebody cannot campaign in Yoruba land if he’s not Tinubu can never be trusted with any security outfit.

“Any license given to him should be seen as a license granted to a partisan hack who is willing to wreck the opposition at the slightest provocation or instruction.

“So he ruined his own reputation and integrity and credibility by declaring that only people who are supporting Tinubu can campaign in Yoruba land.

“You see the reason why I said I would never appoint a minister of defence?

“I would appoint a drone so that he would not have time for foolish talk. Just go to work, get it done, and retire, recharge, and go back the next day. Yes.”
