Oyo APC Governorship Candidate Yet To Emerge — Adelabu
Former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has insisted that the party has yet to produce its governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
Naija News reports that Adelabu urged APC members in the state to remain calm and await the official pronouncement of the party’s national leadership on the outcome of the recently concluded primaries.
He stated this in a statement issued on Monday.
Adelabu warned party members against accepting widely circulated claims of consensus arrangements on APC candidates for governorship and other elective positions in Oyo State.
The former minister had resigned from office on April 30, 2026, to contest the APC governorship primary.
He contested alongside eight other aspirants, while Senator Sarafadeen Alli had been reported in some quarters as the winner of the primary and the consensus candidate of the party.
The Oyo APC chairman, Moses Adeyemo, had also reportedly declared Alli as the party’s governorship candidate after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos at the weekend.
Adelabu, however, said no individual or group at the state level had the authority to announce the final outcome of the primaries.
He insisted that only the APC national headquarters could make such a declaration.
“Oyo APC guber candidate yet to emerge. At this crucial stage, no one should allow himself or herself to be misled by rumours, propaganda or premature victory claims designed to manipulate public perception, create confusion among party faithful and influence ongoing consultations within the party,” Adelabu said.
The former minister said premature claims were harmful to the party and inconsistent with internal democracy.
“Such actions are neither helpful to the party nor consistent with the principles of fairness, discipline and internal democracy that should guide our conduct as loyal APC members.
“Any purported list of candidates being circulated on social media or through unofficial channels should be treated with utmost caution until the national leadership of the party makes its official pronouncement,” Adelabu added.
