NDC Disowns Social Media Primary Results, Summons NEC Meeting

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from various results of its recently concluded nationwide primaries circulating on social media.

Naija News reports that the party said only its National Executive Council was authorised to announce the official outcome of the exercise.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, urged the public to disregard the results being shared online.

The director said the results of the primaries conducted nationwide on May 28 and 29 remained in the custody of the party’s NEC.

The statement read, “The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress on the 28th and 29th of May, 2026.

“The results of the primaries are with the National Executive Council of our great party. They are solely responsible for announcements of results.”

NEC Meeting Summoned

The party also announced that an NEC meeting had been summoned in Abuja to deliberate on the primaries and other matters arising from the exercise.

The director said the meeting was called on the directive of the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.

He said, “On the order of the National Leader of our party, His Excellency Senator Seriake Dickson, a NEC meeting of the party has been called.

“Therefore, all members of NEC are to arrive at Abuja for a pre-NEC meeting on Tuesday, 2nd of June, while the NEC meeting will be held on Wednesday, 3rd of June, 2026.”

The NDC assured members and stakeholders that the official list of candidates who emerged from the primaries would be made public after ratification.

It said the names would be released before submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“The general public and stakeholders will be availed of the results of our primaries when we send the list of candidates to fly our party’s flag to the INEC,” the statement added.

The clarification comes amid speculation over the outcome of the party’s primaries held nationwide to select candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The emergency NEC meeting is expected to ratify results and resolve disputes before the party forwards its final candidates’ list to INEC.
