Fresh Tension In Oyo As Bandits Attack Ajaawa Near Ogbomoso
Gunmen suspected to be bandits reportedly attacked Ajaawa, a community close to Ogbomoso in Oyo State, on Friday night, May 29, 2026.
A source who spoke with Naija News confirmed that at least three corpses had been recovered as of the time of filing this report.
The source, who preferred her identity not be mentioned in the media for security reasons, also disclosed that one resident sustained several cutlass injuries during the attack.
The incident has caused tension in the area, especially as it happened days after the reported abduction of teachers and pupils in the Ogbomoso zone.
An individual who was travelling through the route but was forced to return to Igbeti also confirmed the development to Naija News.
The traveller said movement around the affected route became unsafe following reports of the attack, forcing some road users to turn back.
Residents in and around the area were said to have been thrown into panic as news of the attack spread on Friday night.
The attack comes amid growing concern over insecurity in parts of Oyo State, particularly in communities around the Ogbomoso axis.
As of the time of filing this report, security operatives had yet to issue any official statement on the incident.
Details of the attack remained sketchy, while residents awaited further clarification from security agencies.
Meanwhile, earlier, the principal of Community High School, Esiele, Oyo State, Mrs Rachael Alamu, has again appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde to negotiate with the terrorists holding abducted teachers and schoolchildren.
Naija News reports that Alamu warned that one of the captives had allegedly been marked for execution following a failed rescue attempt by security operatives.
The school principal made the appeal in a new viral video recorded from captivity.
In the video, Alamu said the use of force by security agents had worsened the condition of the abductees.
She pleaded, “Please I am here again to beg the government. President Tinubu and the governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, please help us by engaging in dialogue with these people.
“They should not use force. The force they have used yesterday has caused us so much. It has added to our problems. In fact, one of us has been picked that they are going to kill him because government tried to help us by force.
“We want you to call them and dialogue with them, so that our lives will be saved.”
In another video, Alamu spoke in Yoruba, appealing for mercy and urgent intervention.
She further stated, “Please, help us. We beg you in the name of God, please have mercy on us. This is too much. In the sun and in the rain. Both old and young, we are in the same place.
“Today marks the 13th day since we were kidnapped. We don’t want you to fight them at all. Whatever they ask for, please, give to them.”
One of the abducted teachers, Mary Akanbi, who is nursing a baby, also appealed to the Oyo State governor to negotiate with the abductors.
“We are pleading with Governor Seyi Makinde, please help us, negotiate with these people. Whatever they want, please give to them. We are all here; we the teachers and the students,” she said.
Alamu was among teachers, pupils, and residents abducted when armed men invaded schools and communities in Esiele and Yawota areas of Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday.
The attack has continued to heighten fear among families of the victims and residents of the affected communities.
