Seyi Makinde Reveals Preferred Governorship Candidate

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Bimbo Adekanmbi, as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 election.

Naija News reports that Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during Adekanmbi’s unveiling as the APM consensus governorship candidate.

In recent weeks, there had been speculation that Makinde had settled for Adekanmbi as his preferred candidate.

The rumour gained momentum on May 14, when the governor declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.

At the joint mega rally of the Peoples Democratic Party and the APM in Ibadan, Makinde and Adekanmbi were seen together with officials of both parties.

Addressing supporters, Makinde said his administration’s political arrangement in Oyo State would soon expand nationally.

I am here to tell you all two things. First, I want to thank you for your support towards this administration and also for the current political arrangement in Oyo State, which will also go national very soon,” he said.

You have tasted Omituntun 1.0 and 2.0. Is it sweet, or not? This is Omituntun 3.0.”

The governor and Adekanmbi then raised APM face caps before cheering supporters.

Makinde urged Adekanmbi to chart his own political path and avoid inheriting his personal political battles.

“I have told Bimbo, don’t inherit my enemies; chart your own path. I’m only human, and I make mistakes, just like everyone else,” Makinde said.

He also advised Adekanmbi to build on the achievements of his administration for the benefit of the people.

He should improve on the good things we have done for the benefit of the people of Oyo State,” he added.
