My Father Would Have Resigned If Tinubu Appointed Him Minister – Bashir El-Rufai

Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has rejected claims that his father’s criticism of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is connected to his failure to secure a ministerial appointment.

Naija News reports that the issue began after an 𝕏 user questioned whether El-Rufai would still be at odds with the APC if he had been appointed into Tinubu’s cabinet.

Let’s be honest here please. Do you think Mallam Elrufai will still fight APC if he has gotten the ministerial position?”, the user @ie_mooh asked.

Responding, Bashir argued that even if his father had become a minister, he would not have remained in office for long. According to him, the former governor would eventually have become dissatisfied with the way things were being run and would likely have stepped down from the position.

He also took a swipe at the current federal cabinet, describing it as a cartel and it would have been difficult for his father to operate comfortably within it.

“Maybe, maybe not. One thing I know for certain is that he would have immediately resigned since, especially after realizing he is a minister in a cabinet that is in effect a Cartel. Headed by the Chief importer”, he replied.
