Bandits Kill Zamfara Teacher After Ransom Payment

A teacher at Federal Government College, Anka in Zamfara State, Mustapha Yahaya Maru, has been killed by armed bandits even after his family paid ransom for his freedom.

Naija News reports that he was kidnapped in early May while travelling to Anka in Zamfara State. He was in a vehicle with other passengers when armed attackers stopped them and took them away. After the abduction, the kidnappers contacted his family and demanded a large amount of money that was far above what the family could easily afford.

According to Sahara Reporters, the family made efforts to gather funds and eventually paid the amount that was agreed with the kidnappers. They expected that the payment would lead to his release.

However, instead of letting him go, the armed men killed him on Tuesday. His death has left his family and people in his community in deep sadness.

The incident has added to worries about the growing level of violence in Zamfara and other nearby states where armed groups continue to carry out attacks, kidnappings, and killings.

In other news, the Oyo State Police Command has said its operatives, in collaboration with local hunters and other security agencies, neutralised three suspected kidnappers during a security operation in Otu, in the Oke-Ogun axis of the state.

The command also said an abducted victim, identified as Mosudi Gbolagade, aged about 50, was rescued during the operation.
