Matawalle Meets 85 Zamfara APC Aspirants Not Cleared For Primaries

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has met with 85 All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly aspirants from Zamfara State who were not cleared during the party’s screening exercise.

The meeting was held at Matawalle’s residence in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, Naija News understands.

It was convened as part of reconciliation efforts within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Matawalle urged the aspirants to remain calm, united and committed to the progress of the party despite the outcome of the screening process.

He assured them that their complaints had not been ignored and that steps were being taken to address their grievances.

According to him, the APC remains a party that values fairness, justice and equal opportunity for all its members.

Responding to the concerns raised by the aspirants, Matawalle said the party’s National Working Committee was already reviewing petitions submitted by aggrieved members.

He appealed to the aspirants to exercise patience and allow the party leadership to complete the process.

The former Zamfara State governor said internal disagreements should not be allowed to weaken the APC in the state, especially as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

He noted that unity among members would be critical to the party’s success.

The aspirants, who were led by Sulaiman Shu’aibu Shinkafi, expressed appreciation to Matawalle for meeting with them.

They described his intervention as a sign of leadership and commitment to peace within the party.

The group also commended the minister for what they called his efforts to promote unity among members of the APC in Zamfara State.

Matawalle, in turn, commended the aspirants for their conduct and willingness to remain within the party despite their grievances.

He described their unity and maturity as encouraging.

The minister said their readiness to work for the success of the APC showed that they placed the interest of the party above personal disappointment.

Matawalle also said the Federal Government was intensifying efforts to tackle insecurity in different parts of the country.

He specifically mentioned insurgency in the North-East and banditry in the North-West as major security challenges receiving attention.

The minister said the government remained committed to restoring peace and stability in affected communities.

The meeting was part of ongoing consultations aimed at strengthening internal cohesion within the APC in Zamfara State.

Also present were a former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mukhtar Ahmad Anka; former Speakers of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bature Umar Sambo and Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya; the APC State Secretary, Ibrahim Maigandi; and the APC Auditor, Yusuf Idris Gusau.

Other party stakeholders also attended the meeting.
