‘The Most Foolish Thing’ – APC Chieftain Reveals Atiku’s Plot With ADC, Calls Out Peter Obi

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has alleged that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was being used by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a political platform to truncate southern presidency.

Naija News reports that Akindele made the claim while reacting to comments credited to the Obidient Movement, which reportedly described former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as wise for leaving the ADC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a post on his Facebook page, the APC chieftain disagreed with the position, insisting that Obi should have known from the beginning that the ADC was allegedly designed to advance Atiku’s political ambition.

According to Akindele, Obi’s decision to first join the ADC before leaving for another platform did not show political wisdom.

He argued that the former Anambra State governor would have been wiser if he had avoided the ADC from the outset.

He wrote, “ObiDENTs say Obi is a wise politician by not contesting in the ADC Primary but instead running away from the party. I disagree with them.

“The most foolish ignorance of any politician is not to know from the beginning that ADC was Atiku’s vehicle to truncate the Southern presidential term.”

Akindele claimed that the ADC arrangement was part of a broader effort to return power to the North after the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu.

The APC chieftain further alleged that Atiku had earlier attempted to use the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to achieve the same objective but failed.

He stated, “It was an arrangement to return power to the North after 8 years of Buhari and 4 years of Tinubu. He had earlier used PDP but failed.”

Akindele’s comments come amid continuing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition figures and political groups exploring new alliances.

Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 and 2023 elections, has remained a central figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics.

Akindele also rejected the claim by some members of the Obidient Movement that Obi acted wisely by avoiding the ADC presidential primary.

He said Obi’s movement from the Labour Party to the ADC and then to the NDC showed poor political judgment.

According to him, Abia State Governor Alex Otti displayed better political judgment by not following the same path.

He added, “So, Obi would have been wise if he hadn’t joined ADC at all. And the most foolish thing he did was to decamp from LP and he ended up in NDC. This clearly shows that Alex Otti is a sensible man and Pita is a foolish man to the core.”
