Donald Duke Wins PRP Presidential Ticket For 2027 Election
Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) for the 2027 general election.
Duke secured the party’s ticket after polling the highest number of votes at the PRP presidential primary held on Tuesday, May 26, in Abuja.
The result of the primary was announced at the party’s national secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory by the National Chairman of the PRP, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed.
Naija News understands that three aspirants contested for the party’s presidential nomination.
Announcing the result, Baba-Ahmed said Duke polled 6,499 votes to defeat his closest rival, Kingsley Yakubu, who secured 2,699 votes.
Yakubu had campaigned across the country on youth inclusion and economic reform.
Baba-Ahmed also announced that Dr Nnaoke Ufere, an academic and policy expert, came third with 784 votes.
The result placed Duke ahead of the other contenders and confirmed him as the party’s flagbearer for the next presidential election.
Declaring the outcome of the primary, Baba-Ahmed described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and fair to all aspirants.
He said the process was conducted without bias and in line with the party’s internal democratic procedures.
The PRP chairman, however, urged any aspirant dissatisfied with the outcome to channel complaints through the party’s Appeal Committee.
According to him, the committee was available to review grievances in line with the party’s rules.
Duke’s emergence sets the stage for his participation in the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the PRP.
The former governor, who previously governed Cross River State, will now lead the party’s presidential campaign as political parties continue preparations ahead of the next general election.
