Bauchi Senator, Shehu Buba ‘Dumps’ APC For PRP
The senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba, has reportedly defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Redemption Party.
Naija News reports that the development followed his withdrawal from the APC governorship race in Bauchi State over alleged irregularities in the party’s primaries.
Buba had accused some officials of manipulating the process and violating the party’s constitution.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Sabo Muhammad, the senator alleged that some APC officials failed to appear at election venues but released predetermined results.
“The party officials have practically been hijacked by persons who do not mean well for the party, having allowed themselves to be caged at undisclosed hotels in Bauchi State without appearing at the elections’ venues but releasing predetermined results,” the statement read.
Following his withdrawal, photographs emerged on Sunday from Mujaddadi TV, Buba’s social media team, showing the senator holding a PRP registration certificate.
The pictures fuelled reports that he had left the ruling party.
Supporters Back Defection
Meanwhile, supporters of the senator on Saturday reaffirmed their loyalty to him, saying they were ready to follow him to any political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
They urged Buba to leave the APC and join the PRP to actualise his governorship ambition. The supporters made the call during a solidarity rally held at Pali Suite in Bauchi.
Speaking at the rally, Chairman of the Mujaddadi Kafar Kafarmu Group, Haruna Modibbo, described Buba as the most competent aspirant for the Bauchi governorship seat.
Modibbo said the senator withdrew from the APC race because of alleged plans to impose a candidate instead of conducting a free, fair and transparent primary.
He added that since Buba’s withdrawal, many supporters had accused some APC stakeholders in Bauchi of working against his governorship ambition.
Modibbo said Buba remained the most credible candidate to govern Bauchi State, citing his record in youth empowerment, women support programmes, job creation, education and healthcare.
He said the state would benefit significantly if Buba emerged as governor in 2027.
The group pledged to mobilise support for him across the state and urged women and youths to sensitise residents on the need to elect a capable and people-oriented leader.
The leader of the women’s wing of the Mujaddadi Kafar Kafarmu Group, Ummi Aliyu, said members were ready to intensify grassroots mobilisation for the senator.
She urged voters to look beyond party affiliation and support candidates based on competence, credibility and leadership qualities.
