West Ham Face £200 Million Relegation Blow As Nuno’s Future Hangs In Balance

West Ham United manager Nuno Espirito Santo is expected to hold crunch talks with senior club officials today, May 25, as uncertainty grows over his future following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

Naija News reports that West Ham United dropped into the Championship for the first time since 2011 despite ending the campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Leeds United on the final day of the season.

Nuno, who arrived at the London Stadium on a three-year contract in September, declined to confirm whether he would remain in charge after failing to keep the club in the top flight.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest coach oversaw an upturn in form late in the season, but the damage had already been done.

A dreadful opening to the campaign, followed by a miserable 10-match winless run between November and January, left West Ham with too much ground to recover.

Chairman David Sullivan and vice-chairman Daniel Kretinsky are expected to lead discussions over the club’s immediate future.

Sources close to West Ham believe relegation could cost the club around £200 million in lost revenue at a time when finances are already under severe pressure.

The Hammers recorded losses of £104 million in accounts up to 31 May 2025 and are expected to post another significant deficit this season.

That financial strain could force major player sales this summer.

Midfielder Mateus Fernandes is reportedly among the central midfield options being considered by Manchester United, while captain Jarrod Bowen is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.

Bowen, however, avoided discussing his future after the victory over Leeds.

“It’s still very, very raw,” the forward said. “Talking about futures is disrespectful to the club, the fans, everything like that. This club deserves to be in the Premier League. Our aim now is to get this club back into the Premier League.”
