‘There Is Gang Up Against Tinubu, APC In The South’ – Osoba

A former governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba, has alleged that some political actors in Southern Nigeria are plotting to weaken President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 presidential election.

Naija News reports that Osoba, a close ally of Tinubu, said the alleged plan was to field multiple presidential candidates from the South in order to divide votes from the region and reduce the President’s margin.

The elder statesman spoke at the Presidential Lodge, Abeokuta, during the announcement of the result of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary in Ogun State.

Announcing the result, Governor Dapo Abiodun, who served as the state coordinator and collation officer, said Tinubu polled 322,485 votes across the 20 local government areas of Ogun State.

His challenger, Stanley Osifo, scored zero votes.

The result was announced in the presence of Osoba, Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziak Salako, APC governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, Ogun APC Chairman, Yemi Sanusi, and other party leaders.

Speaking before the result was announced, Osoba urged APC members not to assume that Tinubu had no serious opposition ahead of the 2027 election.

He warned party members against complacency, saying the “real election” would be held next January.

Osoba said, “The enemies are many.

“I want to appeal to us all ahead of the coming election: let us not be caught off guard. Many people are saying we have no opponents, but that is a misleading narrative. The enemies are many.”

Osoba alleged that the ambitions of former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and former President Goodluck Jonathan were part of attempts to split Southern votes.

He stated, “As we approach the next election, there is a strong gang-up against us. They are plotting to field several candidates from our region in the South.

“Obi has emerged, Jonathan is quietly waiting in the background, and Makinde has been grandstanding. All these appear to be attempts to divide votes from the South.”

The former governor appealed to APC members in Ogun State to support Tinubu massively in the general election.

“So, I want to passionately appeal to everyone to be prepared to vote massively. Do you agree with me? Please, I am sincerely pleading with you,” Osoba said.

He added that Tinubu had supported development in Ogun State and deserved the people’s political backing.

Osoba added, “Under our governor, President Tinubu has been good to us in Ogun State through a series of developmental projects. I hope you will all repay the President’s gesture with your support. Will you do that or not?”
