Nigerian footballers enjoyed a productive weekend across Europe, with decisive goals, title triumphs and standout displays grabbing attention.

In Scotland, Kelechi Iheanacho struck the winner as Celtic F.C. edged Hibernian F.C. 2-1 to draw level on points with leaders Heart of Midlothian. His close-range finish capped a strong return from injury, with four goals in six matches. Celtic now sit level at the summit ahead of Hearts’ meeting with Rangers F.C..

In Cyprus, Francis Uzoho celebrated league glory as AC Omonia sealed the 2025/26 Cypriot First Division title with a 3-0 win over Aris Limassol FC.

The triumph ends Omonia’s five-year wait for the domestic crown and marks Uzoho’s first league title since joining in 2021. The goalkeeper made five league appearances, keeping three clean sheets, as Omonia secured a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Nigeria internationals Nathan Tella and Igoh Ogbu opened their accounts for the 2025/26 season with crucial goals.

Tella scored and assisted in Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-1 win over RB Leipzig, while Ogbu netted as SK Slavia Prague beat FC Slovan Liberec 2-1. Their performances boost their chances of selection for the Unity Cup squad under Eric Chelle.

Femi Azeez struck twice for Millwall F.C. against Oxford United F.C., but automatic promotion slipped away after Ipswich Town F.C. beat Queens Park Rangers F.C. 3-0.

In Portugal, Zaidu Sanusi returned from injury to help FC Porto secure the Primeira Liga title with a 1-0 win over F.C. Alverca. The left-back started and impressed before being withdrawn at half-time.

In France, Moses Simon played the full match as Paris FC thrashed Stade Brestois 29 4-0.

In Belgium, Raphael Onyedika featured from the bench in Club Brugge KV’s 3-1 win over RSC Anderlecht, keeping Brugge top of the title race.

In Cyprus, Peter Olayinka played 67 minutes as APOEL FC continued their title push.

In Greece, Bruno Onyemaechi missed Olympiacos F.C.’s 3-1 defeat to PAOK FC, leaving the club chasing leaders AEK Athens F.C..
