Turaki Arrives Supreme Court For PDP Leadership Judgment
The factional leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has arrived at the Supreme Court ahead of judgment in the party’s leadership dispute.
The case seeks to overturn a Court of Appeal judgment which nullified the party’s disputed exercise for allegedly violating a subsisting court order.
The PDP case, with appeal number SC/CV/166/2026, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) matter, marked SC/CV/180/2026, were fixed for judgment at 2 pm.
The development comes after the Federal High Court, on Wednesday, restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising congresses conducted by the David Mark-led leadership of the ADC pending the resolution of the party’s internal disputes.
The Supreme Court judgment is expected to shape the leadership structures of both opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC had earlier fixed May 10 as the deadline for political parties to submit their membership registers.
The commission also scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for Saturday, January 16, 2027, while governorship and state Assembly elections will hold on Saturday, February 6, 2027.
According to INEC’s timetable, party primaries and the resolution of related disputes will run from April 23 to May 30, 2026.
Campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections are expected to begin on August 19, 2026, while campaigns for governorship and state Assembly elections will commence on September 9, 2026.
