US President Reveals Iran Sent Oil Boats As Peace Gesture To Aid Diplomatic Effort
US President Donald Trump has disclosed that Iran’s mysterious diplomatic gesture involved allowing ten oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz as proof of serious engagement in peace negotiations.
Trump made the revelation on Thursday, ending days of speculation about the “present” he had mentioned earlier in the week. The president confirmed that Iranian officials permitted the vessels to transit the strategic waterway while talks between both nations continue.
Naija News reported that Trump had teased reporters about receiving a significant goodwill present from Iran but refused to provide details at the time.
The American leader explained that Iranian negotiators proposed the gesture to demonstrate their commitment to the diplomatic process. Trump described the oil shipments as valuable and significant, indicating progress in efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict.
Iran Sends Additional Vessels As Apology
Additionally, Trump claimed that Iranian officials initially offered eight oil tankers but later added two more vessels as an apology for unspecified remarks. The president confirmed that all ten boats sailed through the Strait of Hormuz flying Pakistani flags.
“They said, ‘To show you the fact that we’re real and solid and we’re there, we’re going to let you have eight boats of oil, eight boats, eight big boats of oil,'” Trump told reporters on Thursday.
The president emphasised that the gesture convinced American negotiators they were engaging with credible Iranian counterparts.
“They were right, and they were real,” Trump added, describing the successful passage of the vessels.
Trump also confirmed that Washington has conducted significant discussions with Iranian officials, though he did not identify specific individuals involved in the talks. The oil tankers’ movement through the strait serves as tangible evidence that diplomatic efforts have gained momentum.
When reporters asked whether Iran should charge tolls for vessels crossing the strategic waterway, Trump acknowledged the practice exists.
“They shouldn’t be able to, but they’re doing it a little bit,” the president said.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical chokepoint for global oil transportation, making Iran’s control over the passage strategically significant for international energy markets.
