Super Eagles Technical Crew Fly To Turkey As NFF Weighs Coaching Shake-up

Backroom staff of the Super Eagles of Nigeria are due in Antalya on Monday night ahead of international friendlies against the Iran national football team and the Jordan national football team.

Assistant coaches Fidelis Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogunmodede will lead the early contingent, while head coach Eric Chelle and other members of the technical crew are expected to arrive from Europe.

Naija News reports that the Camp opens on Tuesday, with Nigeria set to face Iran on Friday before taking on Jordan next week on Tuesday as preparations gather pace for upcoming competitive fixtures.

Away from the pitch, scrutiny is mounting within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the composition of the coaching staff. Both assistants have retained their roles, but concerns linger about experience levels within the current setup.

A senior federation official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said discussions are ongoing about reinforcing the bench with more seasoned Nigerian coaches, according to BSN Sports.

“Neither of the current assistant coaches is seen as ready to take charge of the Super Eagles at short notice,” the official said. “This has prompted discussions about recruiting more qualified local coaches to provide stronger technical support.”

The NFF technical committee is expected to meet Chelle in the coming weeks to review the structure.

Ogunmodede recently secured a UEFA B licence in Scotland and led Remo Stars to a historic NPFL title last season, though the club has since struggled. Ilechukwu, meanwhile, continues to impress with Enugu Rangers, who are firmly in the title race this term.
