Australia And New Zealand Call For Quick End To Middle East War

Australian and New Zealand government ministers have called for the Middle East war to end as quickly as possible and move toward a negotiated solution.

Foreign and defence ministers from both countries met for annual talks on Tuesday in Australia’s capital, Canberra, to discuss the escalating situation in the Middle East.

“We discussed the escalating situation in the Middle East. We want this crisis to end as quickly as possible and move to a negotiated solution,” New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters told reporters after the meeting.

The meeting comes as the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran continues to intensify, with Iran effectively halting oil passage through the Strait of Hormuz and sparking a global energy crisis.

Naija News reported Monday that Australia confirmed it would not send a warship to the Strait of Hormuz despite US President Donald Trump calling on countries to deploy naval forces to help secure the strategic waterway.

Australia announced last week it was providing the United Arab Emirates with an air force surveillance jet and air-to-air missiles to defend against Iranian attacks, but made clear it was “not taking offensive action against Iran.”

The joint statement from Australia and New Zealand reflects growing international concern about the regional implications of the conflict and calls for diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis before it escalates further.
