Super Eagles Friendlies Moved To Turkey Amid Middle East Tensions
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will now face Jordan and Iran in Turkey later this month after organisers moved the planned international friendlies from Amman due to the situation in the Middle East.
The matches, initially scheduled for the Jordanian capital, have been relocated to Antalya due to concerns about the current security climate and restrictions on movement across the region.
The Super Eagles will open their two-match schedule against Iran on Friday, 27 March, before taking on Jordan four days later on Tuesday, 31 March.
Both fixtures will now be staged in the Turkish coastal city of Antalya instead of Amman, where they were originally planned.
Nigeria will meet Iran in the first friendly on the same day Jordan square off against Costa Rica. The round of matches will end on 31 March when the Super Eagles play Jordan, while Iran face Costa Rica.
The fixtures offer another opportunity for the coaching crew of the Super Eagles to fine-tune the squad and assess options as they continue their preparations for upcoming international assignments.
Iran, Jordan and Costa Rica are also expected to use the matches to sharpen their squads as attention gradually shifts towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
While Iran have qualified for the World Cup, Naija News reports that they are likely to withdraw from the tournament due to the ongoing conflict involving them and Israel, alongside the co-hosts, the United States.
