ADC Faction Rejects Tambuwal’s Membership

A faction of the African Democratic Congress in Sokoto State has denied reports that former governor of the state and senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has joined the party, saying there is no record of his membership in the state.

Naija News reports that the group said the proper process required for joining the party was not followed and that the party leadership in Sokoto had not received any official notice about Tambuwal becoming a member.

The faction, led by the state chairman, Umar Faruk, explained that party membership must begin at the ward level.

According to the leadership, anyone who wishes to join the ADC must first register in his or her ward before the membership can be recognised by the party.

In a statement released on Thursday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Murtala Aliyu, the group said checks were carried out with party officials in Tambuwal’s ward and local government area.

The officials said they had no information about the former governor joining the party.

The statement said the party leadership contacted the ADC chairman in Tambuwal Ward and also reached out to the chairman of the party in Tambuwal Local Government Area, Aminu Tambari.

Both party officials reportedly said they were not aware of any development showing that Tambuwal had joined the ADC.

The faction said the party’s constitution clearly states that membership cannot be arranged privately or through individuals outside the ward structure.

It explained that every new member must go through the ward chairman and complete the required process before being accepted.

The leadership of the party in the ward and local government where Senator Tambuwal hails from confirmed that they were neither informed nor consulted about the alleged defection, as required by the party’s constitution and procedures,” the statement said.
