Why We May Attack Iran – Saudi Arabia Sources Reveal

Saudi Arabia is weighing its options after a drone strike forced a partial shutdown of the Ras Tanura refinery, with a source close to the Saudi government warning that a concerted Iranian attack on the kingdom’s oil facilities could trigger military retaliation.

The massive Saudi Aramco refinery on the Gulf coast was struck by two drones on Monday, three days into escalating hostilities across the Middle East.

Speaking to AFP, the source said Riyadh was still assessing the nature of the strike and whether it constituted a direct act of aggression from Tehran.

“It depends if this is seen as a direct attack on Aramco by the Iranian leadership or a rogue drone that just came close,” the source said.

At this stage I think Saudi will watch and wait.”

The Ras Tanura refinery is one of the largest oil processing facilities in the world and plays a critical role in Saudi Arabia’s energy exports.

However, the source made it clear that Saudi Arabia would not hesitate to respond if the incident is deemed part of a broader, coordinated campaign targeting its energy infrastructure.

Military retaliation would be considered if Iran were seen as launching a targeted campaign against the kingdom’s oil installations.

Saudi Arabia, the world’s biggest oil exporter, relies heavily on the stability of its oil facilities, making any sustained attack on Aramco installations a significant national security concern.

The source further warned that the kingdom could target “Iranian oil facilities if Iran mounts a concerted attack on Aramco.”
