Russia Condemns US, Israeli Strikes On Iran, Demands Immediate Halt

Russia condemned Saturday’s United States and Israeli strikes on Iran as “a pre-planned and unprovoked act of armed aggression,” demanding both countries immediately halt the military campaign and return to diplomacy.

Naija News had reported the US and Israeli strikes on Iran after weeks of US military buildup in the region, as well as the disruption of flights across the Middle East.

Moscow’s Foreign Ministry posted a statement to Telegram accusing Washington and Tel Aviv of “hiding behind” concerns about Iran’s nuclear program while actually pursuing regime change.

The ministry warned the attacks could trigger a “humanitarian, economic and possibly radiological catastrophe” in the region.

“Responsibility for the negative consequences of this manmade crisis, including an unpredictable chain reaction and spiralling violence, lies entirely with them,” the statement said.

Russia Offers To Broker Peace

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke by phone with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the ministry said.

Araghchi updated Lavrov on Iran’s defence efforts and said Tehran would seek an urgent United Nations Security Council session. Lavrov, however, repeated Russia’s condemnation of the strikes and offered Moscow’s help in brokering peace.

Naija News gathered that Moscow called bombing nuclear facilities under International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards “unacceptable” and placed full responsibility for the escalation on the United States and Israel.

The Foreign Ministry also condemned what it described as “the serial nature of destabilizing attacks carried out by the US administration,” accusing Washington of attacking “the international legal pillars of the world order.”

Russia has walked a diplomatic tightrope in the Middle East for decades, maintaining warm relations with Israel while building strong economic and military ties with Iran.

Meanwhile, some Moscow observers believe the Israel-Iran confrontation could shift global attention away from the war in Ukraine and potentially weaken Western support for Kyiv.
