Laporta Reveals PSG’s €250m Bid For Lamine Yamal

Former president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain once tabled a massive €250 million offer to sign rising star Lamine Yamal, a proposal the Catalan club firmly rejected.

Joan Laporta, speaking during the launch of his new book, Així hem salvat el Barça, recounted the extraordinary approach. He explained that PSG were desperate to secure a high-profile talent after the departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid.

Laporta stated: “When PSG offered us €250 million for Lamine Yamal, and we rejected it, he was 17 years old; some people thought we were crazy.”

The proposed fee would have shattered transfer records, surpassing the €222 million PSG paid to sign Neymar in 2017. That move remains one of football’s most expensive and controversial deals, and PSG evidently sought another statement signing to fill the void left by Mbappe.

Yamal, who emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents during the 2023-2024 season, has continued to impress for Barcelona and the Spanish national team. His rapid development has cemented his reputation as a cornerstone of the club’s future, and Barcelona have remained adamant that he is not for sale.

PSG eventually shifted their focus elsewhere, while Yamal’s rise continues to attract global attention at FC Barcelona.
