Igor Thiago Makes Premier League History With Second Player Of The Month Award
Brentford striker Igor Thiago has made Premier League record after being crowned January’s EA SPORTS Player of the Month, becoming the first Brazilian to win the award twice.
Igor Thiago, 24, who also lifted the prize in November 2025, continued his electric form into the new year and was instrumental in Brentford’s push for a top-six finish. His performances across January proved decisive as the Bees secured crucial victories over Everton and Sunderland.
All five of Igor Thiago’s league goals during the month arrived in those two matches. He struck a clinical hat-trick against Everton before following it up with a brace against Sunderland.
His surge in front of goal has also intensified the race for the Coca-Cola Golden Boot, with Thiago closing the gap on Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
Significantly, January also saw Thiago surpass a long-standing milestone. The Brazilian became the highest-scoring Brazilian in a single Premier League season, moving beyond the previous benchmark of 15 goals.
The award arrives on the same day the striker committed his long-term future to Brentford, signing a new five-and-a-half-year contract with the club.
Speaking to Brentford’s official website, Thiago expressed both pride and ambition after receiving the honour.
“I’ve asked people at the club how many Brentford players have won this, and they told me that nobody had received this trophy before me,” Thiago said on Brentford’s website.
“So I’m really happy to have won it two times now and I look forward to, hopefully, winning more!
“I also want to thank all of the staff and all of the players for their support and for helping me on the pitch.”
