Gunmen Abduct Six In Adamawa Governor’s Hometown

Suspected terrorists in the early hours of Tuesday attacked Gare village, a community in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, abducting six family members and carting away livestock.

The village, located in Pallam District, is the hometown of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

The Adamawa State Police Command, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident, noting that a joint operation involving the police, military, and local vigilantes had been launched to secure the release of the kidnapped victims.

“The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed an attack on Gare Village… which led to the abduction of six family members and the rustling of livestock,” Nguroje said in the statement.

According to the police, reinforcements have been deployed from the 144 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to comb the affected area and surrounding communities.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has directed sustained search-and-rescue operations, reinforced patrols and beefed-up security presence across Madagali and other border communities to ensure the safe rescue and return of the victims and prevent further threats,” the statement read.

Nguroje assured residents that security agencies remained fully committed to safeguarding lives and property in the state.

“Further updates will be communicated,” the police added.

Ironically, Tuesday’s incident occurred just as Governor Fintiri flagged off a tour of all 21 local government areas of the state to assess security and development challenges.

The Madagali attack is the latest in a string of violent incidents plaguing Adamawa. Just recently, gunmen stormed Hong Local Government, leaving 12 dead and homes razed.

Earlier in the year, over 20 people were killed in a communal clash between the Bachama and Chobo communities in Lamurde LGA.
