Scores Injured As Flour-Laden Truck Rams Into Several Cars On Kara Bridge
Several commuters were injured on Sunday following a multiple-vehicle accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the Kara Bridge axis, inward Mowe, triggering hours of gridlock on the busy highway.
The accident occurred when a truck conveying bags of flour reportedly lost control and rammed into several vehicles, including commercial buses and private cars, causing panic among road users.
Channels Television quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the out-of-control truck slammed into two fully loaded interstate commercial buses and other vehicles before toppling on its side.
The impact of the crash also affected a Toyota Corolla that had been parked on the bridge after developing a flat tyre. The driver of the car was reportedly injured in the process.
A RAV4 sports utility vehicle was also caught up in the collision, further compounding the scale of the accident.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency were immediately deployed to the scene to manage traffic and rescue victims.
Confirming the incident in a post on its official 𝕏 handle, LASTMA said the crash involved multiple vehicles and resulted in serious traffic disruption.
“A multiple-vehicle crash involving a truck that fell on its side, a Corolla, an SUV (RAV4), and two loaded interstate Mazda buses has been reported on Kara Bridge inward Mowe. Police officers and our officials are on scene managing the situation,” the agency stated.
While LASTMA did not confirm any fatalities, conflicting reports emerged from the scene.
An eyewitness who spoke to journalists claimed that at least two people were feared dead, although this could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.
Authorities said they were still assessing the situation to determine the exact number of casualties.
The accident led to severe traffic congestion on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with thousands of commuters stranded for hours as traffic built up from both directions.
Motorists were seen abandoning their vehicles, while others sought alternative routes to escape the gridlock.
However, LASTMA later announced that partial recovery of the affected vehicles had been completed, leading to an improvement in traffic flow.
“Our men are on hand to ensure the safety of other motorists and road users while also ensuring smooth traffic flow in collaboration with the men of the FRSC,” the agency added.
The latest crash has once again raised concerns about safety on the Kara Bridge, which has recorded several fatal accidents in recent times.
On October 30, 2025, at least six people, including a police officer, were killed in a separate multiple-truck crash on the same bridge.
That accident reportedly involved several trucks, including a fuel tanker, which collided late at night. Eyewitnesses said one of the trucks carrying unknown items veered off the road and crashed into the brick barricade of the bridge.
The impact reportedly severed the head of the truck, causing it to plunge into the river beneath the bridge.
One of the victims, believed to be an occupant of one of the trucks, was said to have been burnt beyond recognition.
The incident caused extensive damage to vehicles and resulted in prolonged gridlock after one of the trucks plunged into the river following the collision.
As of Sunday evening, authorities had yet to release a comprehensive report on the latest accident, including the confirmed number of injured persons or possible fatalities.
Road safety officials said investigations were ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash, even as commuters renewed calls for stricter enforcement of safety regulations on the ever-busy Kara Bridge.
