‘This Is Nothing Short Of Betrayal And A Grave Sin’ – Kwankwaso Speaks On Gov. Yusuf’s Defection
The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has described the planned defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a political betrayal.
Naija News reports that plans are underway for Yusuf to join the APC despite warnings from Kwankwaso and other NNPP chieftains.
However, Governor Yusuf’s decision to quit the NNPP for the APC has triggered a serious political crisis in Kano State, as some of his cabinet members loyal to Kwankwaso are reportedly preparing to resign in the coming days.
Addressing his supporters in a viral video on Wednesday, Kwankwaso lamented that handing over the hard-fought mandate to the former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, and the APC was a sin against the people of the state.
He said, “Handing over Kwankwasiyya’s hard-fought mandate to Ganduje and the APC is nothing short of political betrayal and a grave sin against the people.”
Meanwhile, former Kano Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Ja’afar Sani Bello, has dismissed the political influence of Kwankwaso.
Speaking on Daily Politics on Trust TV, Bello argued that any party Kwankwaso joins would struggle under his leadership.
Bello maintained that the former governor lacks the nationwide appeal of other prominent politicians who recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“Atiku Abubakar joined the ADC without a caveat, Peter Obi joined without a caveat, Nasir El-Rufai joined without a caveat. All of them command national profiles far above Kwankwaso,” Bello said.
