CAF Appoints Ghanaian Referee Daniel Nii Laryea For Nigeria Vs Morocco AFCON Semi-Final
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Laryea as the match official for the highly anticipated 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final between Nigeria and Morocco.
The Ghanaian referee, 39, is regarded as one of Africa’s top referees and will take charge of his second game at this year’s tournament.
He previously officiated the group-stage clash between Algeria and Burkina Faso and led the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team during Morocco’s quarter-final victory over Cameroon.
He will be assisted by South Africa’s Zakhele Siwela and Lesotho’s Souru Phatsoane as assistant referees, while Rwanda’s Samuel Uwikunda has been appointed as the fourth official. Popular South African referee Abongile Tom will oversee VAR duties.
Meanwhile, Morocco’s head coach, Walid Regragui, addressed questions about his job security ahead of the semi-final clash.
When asked if he feared losing his position should Morocco be defeated by the Super Eagles, Regragui stated: “Every coach knows he must be prepared for the sack [if he doesn’t win]. But I don’t think about that… I’m not afraid [of being sacked].”
The Super Eagles of Nigeria, who beat Algeria 2-0 to book a place in the semi-finals of the AFCON 2025, are pushing for their 4th African title, while the hosts are contending for their second.
