Anthony Joshua, Burna Boy And Other Top Nigerian Celebrities Who Narrowly Escaped Death In Car Accident

Road accidents remain a recurring danger on Nigerian highways, and many commuters, including several celebrities, have, over the years, narrowly escaped death in tragic car accidents.

In this article, Naija News highlights five popular celebrities who have survived tragic accidents.

1. Anthony Joshua: On Monday, December 9, 2025, former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, had a close shave with death, following a road traffic accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, around the Makun area of Ogun State.

The crash involved a sport utility vehicle travelling from Lagos to Sagamu. It resulted in the deaths of two male foreign nationals, identified as Ayodele Kelvin Olu (36), a Nigerian/British citizen, and Gami Sina (36), a British citizen.

However, Joshua, who was also involved in the accident, escaped unhurt.

2. CDQ: Nigerian rapper, Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf, better known as CDQ, was involved in a car crash in Lagos on August 15, 2023.
Sharing videos from the scene via his social media page at the time, the rapper revealed that his car was severely damaged, but he escaped without serious injuries.

3. Dunsin Oyekan: In what many described as ‘miraculous’, Nigerian gospel singer, Dunsin Oyekan, on September 3, 2022, escaped a serious auto crash while travelling from Lagos to Ibadan for a church ministration.

While some members of his crew sustained minor injuries, no lives were lost. Recounting the incident during a church service, Oyekan described it as a miracle, revealing that their vehicle had gone under a trailer.

4. Burna Boy: Nigerian Grammy Award-winning singer, Dami Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy, was involved in a car accident on February 26, 2022, in Lekki, Lagos, while driving his Ferrari 458.

In a post via his Instagram page at the time, the ‘Stand Tall’ crooner said he sustained only minor injuries and expressed displeasure that bystanders focused more on recording the scene than offering help.

5. Harrysong: On June 24, 2016, Nigerian Afropop singer Harrison Tare Okiri, better known as Harrysong, survived a car accident while travelling with his team from Owerri to catch a flight to Lagos.

Harrysong took to Instagram to express gratitude for his survival, describing the experience as a close call with death.
