Seven Feared Dead As Gunmen Attack Plateau Community

Not less than seven persons have been killed following an attack by gunmen suspected to be Fulani bandits on Bong village in Doemak District of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack, which threw the agrarian community into mourning, was confirmed on Sunday by the Executive Chairman of Qua’an-Pan LGA, Christopher Audu Manship.

In a statement issued on his behalf by the Director of Press and Publicity, Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, the council chairman disclosed that the assailants deliberately targeted Christians during the invasion.

According to the statement, the attackers stormed the village, killing residents, injuring several others, and setting houses and other valuable properties ablaze.

The attackers specifically targeted Christians in the community. They also injured an unspecified number of persons and destroyed houses and properties worth billions of naira,” the statement read.

Sylvanus said Manship strongly condemned the killings, describing the attack as senseless and brutal.

“The chairman is deeply saddened by the attack on innocent persons and is collaborating with security operatives to ensure the culprits are brought to book,” Sylvanus stated.

He added that the local government was working closely with security agencies to restore calm and prevent further attacks in the area.

A native of Bong village, Lawrence Dogari, who also confirmed the incident, said the casualty figure could rise as many villagers sustained injuries, while some residents were still missing as of the time of this report.

“For now, I can confirm that over seven people have been killed, while several others were injured. Some people are still unaccounted for,” Dogari said.

Residents of the community have continued to flee their homes in fear, as calls intensify for the Plateau State Government and security agencies to increase security presence in the area to avert further loss of lives and property.

The latest attack adds to the growing list of violent incidents in Plateau State, where communities have repeatedly called for decisive action to end the cycle of killings and destruction.
