Top Nigerian Newspaper Headlines For Today, Saturday, 27th December, 2025

Good morning Nigeria. Welcome to the Naija News roundup of top newspaper headlines in Nigeria for today, Saturday, 27th December, 2025.

1. Tax Reforms To Commence On January 1 – Taiwo Oyedele

The chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, has reiterated that the new tax reforms will commence on January 1, 2026.

He stated this while addressing newsmen following the visit of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC), chaired by Joseph Tegbe, to President Bola Tinubu at his residence in Lagos.

He promised that the reforms under the new tax laws are intended to provide relief to Nigerians and stimulate economic growth.

Oyedele stated that the reforms aimed to promote economic growth, inclusivity, and shared prosperity.

According to Oyedele, “The plan to commence the two remaining new laws on the 1st of January 2026 will go ahead as planned on schedule because these reforms are designed to provide relief to the Nigerian people.

“Bottom 98 per cent of workers will see either no PAYE tax or lower taxes to be paid; small businesses, 97 per cent of them, will be exempted from corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, and large businesses will see a drop in the taxes that they pay.

“The whole idea is to try and promote economic growth, inclusivity, and shared prosperity for our people. We are actually excited at the progress we are making, and we are looking forward to January 1, 2026.”

2. US Airstrikes: ‘Glaring Hypocrisy’ – Why Tinubu Govt Must Apologise To Peter Obi

The Big Tent Coalition, led by Pat Utomi, has condemned what it described as the glaring hypocrisy, incoherence and lack of strategic clarity in the Federal Government’s handling of the recent United States airstrikes against ISIS-linked terrorists in North-West Nigeria.

Naija News reports that the coalition said it was now on record that the Armed Forces of Nigeria, working with the United States, carried out precision strikes against identified ISIS-linked elements in Sokoto State, an operation later confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, almost 24 hours after it occurred.

According to the coalition, the development exposed a “staggering contradiction” in the government’s posture.

It recalled that barely a month ago, the Presidency, through its Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, attacked Peter Obi for saying he would welcome U.S. military assistance if it helped improve Nigeria’s security.

Onanuga had reportedly declared that Nigerians would “never forget nor forgive” Obi for allegedly supporting foreign intervention.

“Today, the same administration has endorsed and confirmed actual foreign military action on Nigerian soil,” the coalition said, describing the situation as hypocritical and indicative of a government that “speaks without thinking, attacks without reflection, and governs without a coherent national security communication strategy.”

Reacting, the Director of Media and Communication of the Big Tent Coalition, Charles Odibo, said the administration owed Peter Obi an immediate and unreserved apology.

“You cannot vilify a prominent citizen for expressing a conditional policy opinion, only to turn around and implement that very option in practice. This flip-flop exposes a government that lacks clarity, coordination, and credibility in its approach to national security,” Odibo said.

Beyond the demand for an apology, the coalition expressed concern over what it called the Federal Government’s disorganised and belated communication on an issue as grave as foreign military operations on Nigerian soil.

It noted that while U.S. President Donald Trump personally announced the strikes, Nigerians were left to rely on fragmented confirmations from different officials almost a day later.

According to Odibo, this raised serious questions about leadership, transparency and the management of Nigeria’s sovereignty.

3. How Many Terrorists Were Killed? – ADC Fires Tinubu Govt, Says US Airstrikes Shows Incompetence

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described the December 25, 2025 U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) airstrikes in Sokoto State as a highlight of what it called President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s historic incompetence.

The opposition party made this known in a statement on Friday to Naija News signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

While welcoming all lawful efforts to protect the lives of Nigerians, the party blamed what it described as the failure of governance under President Tinubu for the unprecedented military attack carried out by a foreign army on Nigerian soil.

It warned that permitting external forces to carry out direct military operations in the country is not sustainable and potentially undermines Nigeria’s strategic interests in the long run.

The ADC also questioned Nigeria’s actual role in the “collaboration,” insisting that Nigeria should not be “mere informants” in an operation that it should be leading.

The party therefore demanded clarifications on operational control, casualties, and specific information about the number and identity of actual terrorists that were killed in the operation.

The ADC cautioned against confusing “collaboration” with what it called “myopic surrender,” and expressed concern over the government’s handling of the information surrounding the operation and the persistent framing of the war against terror in religious terms by the U.S., which it said ultimately endangers Nigeria’s national unity.

4. National Assembly Orders Re-gazetting Of Tax Laws Amid Public Controversy

The National Assembly has ordered its clerk to re-gazette the tax law Acts and issue Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the versions duly passed by both chambers of the parliament.

Naija News reports that the directive follows growing public commentary and controversy surrounding the passage, presidential assent and publication in the Federal Government’s Official Gazette of the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025, Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025, Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025, and the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025.

In a statement on Friday, the House of Representatives spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, said the leadership of both chambers insisted that the move is purely administrative and aimed at protecting the integrity of the legislative record.

According to the House, the concerns raised touch on “the harmonisation of Bills passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives, the documentation transmitted for Presidential assent, and the versions of the Acts subsequently published in the Official Gazette.”

The National Assembly explained that the review would include “a careful examination of any lapses, irregularities, or external interferences, should any be established,” stressing that the leadership of the National Assembly, under Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House Abbas Tajudeen, directed the re-gazetting to clear any ambiguity.

The statement noted that the review did not amount to an admission of wrongdoing.

5. Nigerian Govt Should Have Been First To Break The News – PDP Reacts To U.S Airstrike

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the federal government’s communication structure following the military airstrike carried out by the United States against terrorists in Nigeria.

The PDP, in a statement on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, submitted that the government failed to properly inform Nigerians, and it was the American government that first disclosed details of the security operation.

It added that the subsequent statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was too vague and did not offer insight to Nigerians about what transpired on their own soil.

While the PDP welcomed international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, it maintained that the government should have been the first to report the news in order to properly sensitise the Nigerian populace and avoid reliance on social media reports.

It also warned that such international operations must not compromise Nigeria’s sovereignty and security architecture.

6. I Fully Support United States Military Airstrikes – Ben Murray-Bruce

Former Bayelsa senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, has commended the United States over its military airstrike on terrorists in the country.

Speaking via a post on 𝕏, he stated that the fight against terrorism should be a shared international responsibility.

He asserted that confronting such a menace should never be Nigeria’s burden alone, especially given its limited resources.

The former lawmaker commended the collaborative effort between the United States and Nigeria, stressing that ISIS remains a grave threat to global peace and security.

He further stated that it is far more effective and responsible when the international community acts collectively.

7. Why US Military Airstrikes Had No Impact – Security Expert

A security expert, Zagazola Makama, has opined that the United States’ multiple airstrikes in Sokoto State had no impact on the insurgents terrorising parts of Nigeria.

Naija News recall that the US military on Christmas night launched attacks on terrorists in Sokoto State, causing panic in the state, but details of casualties were not disclosed.

In a viral video, residents of the Jabo community in Tambuwal Local Government Area of the state were seen in panic after one of the airstrikes landed in the community and went up in flames.

In a post via 𝕏 on Friday, Makama said the airstrikes were aimed at the wrong target as the bombs landed on a farm, stressing that the area of strikes is also predominantly 98% Muslim population and does not pose any threat to the Christian Genocide.

He wrote, “Those Asking for our opinion on the U.S. Strike in Sokoto. Well, the Bombs Dropped in a Relatively Safe Part of Sokoto State with no impact.

“Jabo is a farming community under Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, and it has no single record of ISIS and ISWAP activity.

“We welcome U.S interventions to assist Nigeria, but certainly Jabo community in Sokoto was a wrong target for ISWAP, Boko Haram or ISIS who are known to be operating in the North East Nigeria.

“Even JNIM a.k.a Lakurawa do not have any base in North West. The area of strikes is also predominantly 98 Muslim population and does not possess any threat to Christian Genocide. It is a case of bandits terrorizing muslims.

“The strikes and more to come is a welcome development as it will send a big message.”

8. ‘Sokoto Was Never Safe For Nnamdi Kanu’ – Ejimakor Raises Concern After US Military Airstrikes

The lead counsel to the convicted leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor, has raised concern over the well-being of his client following reports of a United States military strike on terrorist targets in Sokoto State.

Naija News reports that the US President, Donald Trump, announced multiple air strikes carried out on Islamic State (ISIS) militants in north-west Nigeria, saying the operation targeted fighters accused of killing mainly Christians in the region.

In a Truth Social post late on Christmas Day, Trump said the strikes were launched “at my direction as Commander in Chief.”

He wrote: “Tonight, at my direction… the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians…”

In a post via 𝕏, Ejimakor stated that the development confirmed that Sokoto is heavily affected by terrorist activities and was never a safe location to detain Nnamdi Kanu.

He argued that the presence of terrorists in the area poses a serious risk to Kanu’s safety and urged the authorities to relocate him to a facility outside what he described as the “terrorist belt” in northern Nigeria.

He said: “The US military strike against terrorists in Sokoto has finally confirmed that Sokoto is riddled with terrorists & thus was never a safe place of custody for MAZI NNAMDI KANU. It’s now more urgent that he be travelled outside the terrorist belt in Northern Nigeria.”

9. I No Dey Give Bele Anyhow Again – 2Baba

Famous Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has set the record straight about impregnating different women.

The veteran musician, who is known for having children with multiple baby mamas outside his marriage, stated that he has changed his ways and no longer gets women pregnant as he pleases.

He made the confession in Benin City during the MC EdoPikin Undiluted with StarBoy and Legends show.

Speaking before his performance, the musician, who said he had a confession, said he is now innocent.

“But see, I get confession. I dey make this confession everywhere I go now to set the record straight. I don stop to dey do that kind of thing, I don stop to dey give belle anyhow. I swear, ask anybody now, they will tell you that I’m innocent,” he said.

Naija News reports that 2Baba’s first baby mama is Sumbo Adeoye, with whom he shared two sons, Zion and Nino. Their relationship ended around 2009 following revelations of his relationships with other women.

Also, Pero Adeniyi, his second baby mama, had three kids with him between 2006 and 2012.

He also shared two daughters with his publicly recognised wife, Annie Macaulay-Idibia, from 2012 until their divorce in 2025.

The singer also recently welcomed a baby with his new partner, Natasha Osawaru.

10. I Was Paid To Attack Davido, Chioma – Uche Maduagwu Begs Singer For Forgiveness

Nigerian actor Uche Maduagwu has publicly apologized to singer Davido and his wife, Chioma Adeleke, for targeting them on social media.

Naija News reports that the apology came through a video he shared on Instagram.

In the video, Uche admitted that he deliberately posted negative content about the couple because he was paid N2.5 million to do so.

He also revealed that four other Nigerian influencers were involved in similar online attacks against Davido and his family.

Uche explained that despite the criticism, Davido has done nothing wrong.

He asked for forgiveness and urged other influencers who were paid to attack the singer to return the money they received.

He admitted his wrongdoing and expressed deep regret for his actions, calling on Davido to forgive him.

He clarified that most of the criticism seen online against Davido and Chioma had been sponsored.

He said: “I was paid to ridicule your wife and your family. I’m not the only one, we’re like five different influencers in Nigeria that were paid. And I’m urging other people that were paid to ridicule Davido to please come out, return the money they said you should use to criticise this guy.

“He has not done anything wrong. I want to apologise to Davido, please forgive me. I collected over N2 million to ridicule you and I’m sorry. Others please return the money they paid you please”, he stated.

Captioning the video, he wrote, “God I’m in TEARS now, I just want @davido to Forgive me, we are 5 influencers paid to criticise Davido. Every criticism you constantly see about Davido and him IYAWO online was paid for. Can you people help me beg 001 to forgive me?”
