Nigeria’s Most Capped Super Eagles Players, Stats Of Their Historic Careers
Nigeria has produced an impressive line of great players in football, but only a handful have etched their names in the record books through sheer consistency and long service to the Super Eagles.
Their journeys span different generations of Super Eagles players, yet they all share the same thread of dedication to the green and white.
At the top of the list is Ahmed Musa, who sits alone with 111 appearances. The forward has been part of the national setup since 2010 and remains the only Nigerian to score twice in a single World Cup match, a feat he achieved against Iceland in Russia in 2018.
Musa’s career has taken him across four AFCON tournaments, where he has collected gold in 2013, bronze in 2019, and silver in 2023. He also featured at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, making him one of Nigeria’s most experienced players on the global stage.
Just behind him is Vincent Enyeama, the revered Super Eagles goalkeeper with 101 caps. His calm presence and sharp reflexes became trademarks during his time with the national team.
Enyeama was outstanding at the 2013 AFCON in South Africa, where his saves shaped Nigeria’s run to the trophy. He also played in three World Cups and six AFCON editions, earning widespread respect for his leadership and professionalism.
Joseph Yobo, Nigeria’s first centurion, follows with an even 100 caps. The Rivers-born defender anchored the backline for more than a decade and lifted the 2013 AFCON trophy before calling time on his international career. His performances at multiple World Cups made him one of the country’s most trusted defensive figures.
Alex Iwobi and John Obi Mikel share the next spot with 90 caps each. Iwobi’s decision in 2015 to play for Nigeria after representing England at the youth level has paid off for both sides. His goal against Zambia in 2017 secured Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 World Cup. Mikel, on the other hand, brought composure and intelligence to midfield. He shone brightly during the 2013 AFCON and led the country to Olympic bronze in 2016.
Moses Simon, with 86 caps, remains a reliable option for the national team. His pace, quick feet and direct approach have troubled defenders across Africa. His recent displays at the 2023 AFCON and the Unity Cup in 2025 reaffirmed his importance. He shares his tally with Nwankwo Kanu and the late Muda Lawal.
Kanu’s contributions stretch beyond statistics. From winning the U-17 World Cup in 1993 to his heroics at the 1996 Olympics, the forward carried an aura that few African players have matched. His creativity, calmness and ability to deliver decisive moments kept him central to the national team for 17 years.
Lawal, a key figure in the 1980 AFCON-winning squad, also earned 86 caps at a time when international fixtures were far fewer than today.
William Troost-Ekong remains active and has already earned 83 caps. He enjoyed a standout tournament at the 2023 AFCON, where he was named Player of the Tournament after leading from the back and scoring crucial goals.
Austin Okocha, with 73 caps, rounds off the group. His name alone evokes memories of flair, imagination and the kind of skill that left fans cheering long after matches ended. Okocha featured at multiple AFCON and World Cup tournaments and played a significant role in Nigeria’s Olympic triumph in 1996.
