Edo State Government Approves ₦799 Billion Revised Supplementary Budget For 2025

The Edo State Executive Council has approved a revised supplementary budget of ₦799.820 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, representing an increase of about ₦125 billion from the previously approved ₦675.220 billion.

The new budget marks an 18 per cent upward adjustment. The approval came after an emergency executive meeting held on Monday, September 29, 2025, and presided over by Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Commissioner for Finance, Emmanuel Okoebor, said the review reflects the administration’s focus on capital projects and long-term infrastructure growth.

“Previously, we had a budget of ₦675 billion, with recurrent expenditure having about 33 per cent and capital 67 per cent. The new revised budget now has about 70 per cent for capital expenditure as against 30 per cent for recurrent expenditure. It shows the commitment of Governor Monday Okpebholo in infrastructural development in Edo State,” Okoebor explained.

He noted that the capital allocation saw the most significant boost. “The increment in the budget is about ₦125 billion, which signifies about 18 percent of the previous budget.

“Recurrent increased with about ₦12 billion, while capital is about ₦113 billion from the previous one. Given a 25 per cent increment in capital expenditure and a 5 per cent increment in recurrent expenditure.

“It clearly shows that the government is concerned about infrastructural development, making Edo people happy,” he said. “We have done about 254km of road across the state, and many more construction works are ongoing.”

The commissioner also highlighted that the slight rise in recurrent spending was necessary to accommodate salary adjustments and employment drives.

“Recurrent expenditure has about a 5 per cent increment, as the increase in minimum wage necessitated that increment, including a lot of employment that the present administration did in the hospital management board for over 1000, and it needs to be captured.

“The budget has been increased by N125 billion, which is about 18 per cent, and capital expenditure has about a 25 per cent increment, from N450 billion to N563 billion,” he added.

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohombamu, confirmed that the revised budget would now be transmitted to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and passage.
