Victor Boniface Called In By Werder Bremen Over Social Media Storm
Werder Bremen striker Victor Boniface has been summoned by the club’s hierarchy after a string of eyebrow-raising social media posts stirred debate in Germany.
Victor Boniface, 24, who is on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, only arrived in Bremen this summer and was tipped to be the team’s attacking spearhead.
But just weeks into his stay, headlines have been dominated less by his football and more by his online activity.
German outlet EXPRESS reported: “Boniface has caused real trouble at Werder Bremen. The reason is strange social media posts. Now the striker has to report to the bosses.”
Among his recent updates, Boniface shared a picture of a smashed car mirror on Snapchat, followed by a cryptic caption on Instagram. What really set tongues wagging, however, was a longer post where he offered advice to young men about relationships.
“If you waste your money on too many women, you will not achieve anything in life. Find yourself one or two women and settle down. At most three women, or if you are going through a lot, four is also okay,” he wrote.

The post may have been meant as humour, familiar to fans back home in Nigeria, but it didn’t land as smoothly with his German employers.
BILD, citing EXPRESS, noted that “the meaning behind the posts remains unclear. Neither Boniface nor the club has commented publicly, but Werder’s hierarchy intends to resolve the issue internally and has invited him for a meeting.”
His comments didn’t just stop at Germany’s borders. Canadian rapper Drake chimed in with a laughing emoji under the post. Boniface, never shy of interaction, responded by asking the music star for private advice, a move that only fuelled the amusement of his followers.
Still, not everyone found the jokes entertaining.
When one critic accused him of being unprofessional and contributing to the decline of his career, Boniface hit back sharply by mocking her wig. That clapback went viral, splitting opinion on whether he should ignore such criticism or confront head-on
This latest storm comes at a time when Boniface is still trying to make his mark in the Bundesliga. His career has already seen its share of setbacks, including a failed medical at AC Milan due to recurring knee issues.
At Bremen, he has so far played just 45 minutes across two matches, registering an assist in the 4-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach before featuring in a 3-0 defeat to Freiburg.
Head coach Horst Steffen has not hidden his concerns about the striker’s positioning.
“He was too much everywhere. It should be the case that he stays more in the centre. It was not as I wanted,” Steffen told EXPRESS. Yet the coach balanced that critique by praising Boniface’s energy in training and keeping faith ahead of Friday’s clash with Bayern Munich.
