Ex-Man United Coach Ralf Rangnick Hospitalised After Ankle Surgery Infection

Austria national team coach Ralf Rangnick has been taken back to the hospital after suffering complications from ankle surgery, forcing him to delay his squad announcement for the upcoming international break.

Ralf Rangnick, a 66-year-old German tactician who previously managed Premier League giants, Manchester United, has endured a difficult recovery period in recent months. What began as a routine ankle operation three months ago has turned into a prolonged struggle, with the wound becoming badly inflamed and now developing an infection.

German newspaper Bild reports that Rangnick contracted the infection during a recent hospital stay and will need “further treatment” before he can return to his duties. The setback means Austria assistant coach Lars Kornetka will step in to handle team matters until Rangnick is fit enough to resume work.

Rangnick’s determination has still been on display despite his health challenges. Just last month, during Austria’s World Cup qualifying win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, he was seen using an E-bike to move across the pitch as he directed his players.

His absence will be felt as Austria prepares for crucial fixtures, but officials remain optimistic about his recovery. For now, the priority is ensuring the German manager receives the care he needs.
