Marketers Predict Increase In Price Of Cement

The soaring price of cement in Nigeria has become a pressing issue for consumers and stakeholders in the construction sector.

As of 2024, cement prices have experienced sharp fluctuations, with costs driven by a host of economic factors, including inflation, foreign exchange rates, and production expenses.

Industry insiders point to several reasons for the surge, with disruptions in the supply chain being a major factor. The instability has impacted the flow of raw materials and finished products, further straining an already stretched market.

Foreign exchange rates have also played a significant role in the price hikes. As cement production relies heavily on imported raw materials, fluctuations in the naira’s value against major currencies have driven up costs.

Labour costs and inflation have compounded the situation, with rising expenses forcing manufacturers and wholesalers to adjust prices.

Adding to the burden, some wholesalers have raised prices even higher than factory rates, compounding the difficulties for consumers.

The price increase at distribution points has particularly affected individual homebuilders, many of whom find it increasingly challenging to purchase cement for their projects.

Here are the prices of major producers of cement this week:
