Gubernatorial Poll: Kogi's Deputy Governor Onoja Faces Defeat In His Own LGA, Against SDP

Kogi State’s Deputy Governor, Chief Edward David Onoja, experienced a setback in his local government, Olamaboro, where the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) claimed victory.

Reports indicate that Onoja’s party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), secured 5,572 votes in Olamaboro, while the SDP amassed 22,173 votes.

The collation officer of the Local Government, Ogbufa Chukwudi, confirmed and signed the results.

Earlier revelations showed that Onoja also lost his polling unit to the SDP, underscoring the depth of his defeat.

Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party secured 1376 votes in the same area.

Additional data revealed that the total votes cast in Olamaboro Local Government were 30,226, with 29,731 votes being rejected and 495 declared invalid.

Meanwhile, Naija News reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) National Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, was physically present at the state office in Lokoja, Kogi State.

On November 11, 2023, the Kogi State governorship was held by the INEC, with 1,932,654 registered voters and 1,833,160 PVCs gathered.

The Social Democratic Party’s Murtala Ajaka, the African Democratic Party’s Leke Abejide, the Peoples Democratic Party’s Dino Melaye, and the All Progressives Congress’ Usman Ododo are among the leading candidates.
