Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga has discarded claims that President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero is fighting for the rights of workers in Imo state, suggesting that the union leader is playing partisan politics with the governorship candidate of Labour party ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

Making this allegation in the wake of plans by the labour union to shut down the nation from Tuesday, November 14, Onanuga wondered how Ajaero was able to convince the Trade Union Congress to believe that he was fighting for the rights of Imo workers.

“Joe Ajaero, with Labour governorship candidate playing partisan politics in Imo. And he claims he is fighting for all workers in the state. TUC surprisingly bought the lie,” a tweet by Onanuga read.

Naija News reports that his comment comes just as the Nigeria Labour Congress gears towards shutting down the nation following the treatment meted out on the union’s president during its protest in Imo state last week Wednesday.

Ajaero had arrived in Imo last Wednesday to help press home the demands of the state’s chapter of the union.

The union in Imo state had accused the state governor, Hope Uzodinma, of plotting to impose his preferred candidate to lead the union. Among other allegations are claims that the state governor owed workers salaries for months.

However, debunking the allegation, Uzodinma explained that all allegations levelled against him were geared towards ruining his chances of victory at Saturday’s governorship election.
