Appeal Court Fixes Date To Rule On Kano Governorship Election Tussle

The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja has fixed Monday, October 6, 2023, to hear the appeal of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State against the nullification of his election.

Recall that Yusuf had filed an appeal to challenge the nullification of his election by the Kano Election Petition Tribunal and the declaration of Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor.

A three-man panel of judges led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay sacked Yusuf on September 20, 2023, by declaring 165,663 of his votes invalid because “they were not signed or stamped by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).”

After the tribunal deducted the votes from Yusuf’s tally, the votes of the Kano governor were reduced to 853,939, 30,000 votes less than the 890,705 votes polled by Gawuna.

Tinubu’s Minister Escapes Death As Aircraft Crash-Lands In Ibadan (Photo)

An aircraft conveying the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and some of his aides, crash-landed near the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Naija News learned the HS 125 aircraft, which is a private jet operated by Flint Aero, crash-landed on Friday night.

It was gathered that the aircraft departed Abuja Airport for Ibadan at about 6:41 pm and crash-landed into the bush during an effort to land at about 7:21 pm close to the airport runway in Ibadan.

A source told Leadership that the pilot of the aircraft was cleared for landing before the incident, adding that all persons on board and crew members were, however, safely evacuated.

The source added that the aircraft was substantially damaged.

Why 2023 Supplementary Budget Was Quickly Passed – Ndume

The Senate Chief Whip, Senator Ali Ndume, has justified the speedy passage of the 2023 Supplementary Budget within 48 hours by the National Assembly.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu had on Tuesday submitted the N2.17trn Supplementary Budget, and the Senate and House of Representatives adjusted their rules to pass the Appropriation Bill on Thursday.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Saturday, Ndume, the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, said the National Assembly passed and approved the budget in 48 hours in the interest of the nation.

The Borno lawmaker said the budget was quickly passed to provide funds for the takeoff of the new ministries that were created by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

Organised Labour Restrained From Embarking On Strike In Imo

The National Industrial Court in Owerri has issued a fresh interim injunction restraining the Organised Labour from embarking on any kind of strike in Imo state until further notice.

Justice N C S Ogbuanya gave the order on Saturday after hearing the submissions of counsels to both parties that they were yet to reach a settlement on their dispute.

The defendants are the Secretary-General of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja and the Secretary-General of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Nuhu Toro.

In the suit No NICN/ OW/41/2023, the Attorney General of Imo State and the Imo State Government are claimants.

Wike: Fubara Apologises Over Political Crisis, Appreciates Tinubu For Intervention

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has apologised to state residents over the recent political crisis.

Naija News reports that Fubara, in a statement on Saturday, said it was important to make sacrifices for peace to reign in the state, stressing that no sacrifice is considered too much to achieve the objective.

The Governor addressed the setting ablaze of the state House of Assembly complex, the division among lawmakers and other series of events that led to chaos in the state.

Fubara also appreciated President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the rift with his predecessor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

He added that peace will undoubtedly prevail and would continue to work for the security and progress of our state.

‘Poverty Not A Shameful Thing For Nigerians’ – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said poverty is not a shameful thing for Nigerians, stressing that it is just not acceptable.

The president stated this on Friday at the closing ceremony of a three-day retreat for ministers, presidential aides, and other cabinet members, which took place in the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.

President Tinubu tasked members of his cabinet and other top management staff of the civil service to work together, change the narrative of Nigeria, and bring economic prosperity to the country.

He stated that Nigerians should find a way to dig themselves out of it, adding that it is left for everyone, including him, to navigate out of the poverty ship.

According to him, he is proud of winning the 2023 presidential and also defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) who challenged his victory up to the Supreme Court.

House Of Reps Accuses Navy Of Presidential Yacht Purchase Without Approval

The House of Representatives has accused the Nigerian Navy of buying the controversial N5 billion presidential yacht captured in the 2023 supplementary budget without the approval of the National Assembly.

It was earlier reported that the Navy had confirmed the delivery of the presidential yacht, saying that the sailing boat had been in the country since June 2023.

In an interview with The Punch on Friday, the spokesman for the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan, said the procurement was done during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari to replace the defunct presidential yacht, insisting it was for training.

But the Chairman of the House Committee on Navy, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, has denied knowledge of any budgetary allocation for the procurement of the presidential yacht.

NPC: ‘President Tinubu Yet To Approve 2023 Census’

Indications have emerged that the National Population and Housing Census, earlier scheduled for this year, may not be held as planned.

Recall that the National Population Commission (NPC), which gave a population figure of 140 million, was held in 2006.

Naija News reports that the immediate-past administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari had planned to conduct another census in 2022, but the program was later moved to 2023.

But speaking to The PUNCH on Friday, a Commissioner in the NPC disclosed that the commission was not looking at holding the census in 2023.

Terror Threat: US Govt Warns Citizens To Avoid Major Hotels In Nigeria

The Government of the United States of America has warned its citizens in Nigeria to avoid major hotels in the country due to elevated threats.

The US Embassy in Nigeria issued the warning in an emergency information for American citizens on Friday, November 3, 2023, adding that the Nigerian security agencies are working to counter the threat.

It said US citizens should exercise vigilance at major hotels, be alert to their surroundings, keep a low profile, and review the travel advisory for Nigeria before checking into any hotels
