The 2023 summer transfer window has seen clubs in major leagues across the world break the transfer spending record set in 2019.

In 2019, clubs across the world spent an all-time £6.51 billion in a single transfer window. Since then, clubs have not been able to exceed such a mouthwatering transfer spending record until this summer when the Saudi Pro League came into the picture.

While the world waits for the 2023 summer transfer window to close on September 1 in Europe, clubs have already spent £6.56 billion on signing new players which is the highest total transfer spending in the history of football.

According to Transfermarkt, clubs in the Premier League have already spent over £2.1 billion in the 2023 summer transfer window which is the highest amount spent so far by any league in the world this summer.

So far this summer, the Saudi Pro League has spent £728 million in signing new players which is more than the £682 million the Italian Serie A has spent so far this summer.

Teams from France’s Ligue 1 have already spent €594 million, followed by those from Spain’s La Liga with €342 million; while teams in the German Bundesliga have already spent €598 million so far.

Chelsea broke the British transfer record when they paid £115 million for Brighton’s Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo at the beginning of August. And that is also the highest amount of money spent on a single player so far this summer.

The clubs in Europe may still sign more players until midnight on September 1 when the 2023 summer transfer window is scheduled to close.
