The United States Deputy Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Phee, will visit Nigeria, Chad and Ghana from August 25-29, 2023.

The Spokesman for the US Department of State, Matthew Miller, made this known in a statement on Friday.

On her trip, Phee will speak with regional Heads of State to discuss US support for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and regional leaders in the Niger crisis response.

In Chad, the U.S. official will review ongoing developments with its neighbours Niger and Sudan.

In all her conversations, she will mention the common objectives of preserving Niger’s hard-won democracy and obtaining the immediate release and recovery of President Mohamed Bazoum, his family and members of his unjustly detained government.

Assistant Secretary Phee also consulted with senior officials in Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal and Togo, stressing the United States’ support for the position adopted by ECOWAS in defending democracy and constitutional order.
