Photos From Abuja Building Collapse Emerges

Photos from the collapsed multi-storey building at Lagos Street of Garki, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, have emerged.

Naija News earlier reported that many people are currently trapped under the rubble of the multi-storey building, and a yet-to-be-determined number of people were also feared dead.

It was gathered that the building, which collapsed amidst heavy downpour on Wednesday night, is said to be housing many apartments, while the ground floor was full of shops.

In his reaction, the Director-General of the Federal Emergency Management Authority, Dr. Abbass Idriss, on Thursday morning, said the 37 rescued persons had all been taken to various medical facilities in Abuja, and that rescue efforts were ongoing, in collaboration with other rescue agencies.

The DG stated that two people were fatally injured in the building collapse, adding that evacuation and rescue operation is still ongoing at the collapsed building.

He said officials of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, Fire Service, and FRSC are putting efforts together to ensure the rescue and evacuation of more persons trapped under the collapsed building.

He said, “37 persons were rescued alive, while two others were fatally injured. Meanwhile, the FEMA Search and Rescue team is awaiting excavators to intensify the search to ensure that no victim is left in the rubble of the collapsed building.

“A combined team of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, Federal Road Safety Corps, FCT Police Command and the VIO are on the ground to carry out the rescue efforts.
