Arsene Wenger, the legendary ex-manager of Arsenal football club has finally been immortalized at the Emirates Stadium, the ground where he made his name as an iconic coach.

Earlier today, July 28, 2023, Arsenal unveiled a bronze statue of Arsene Wenger outside the Emirates Stadium, over five years after he ended his reign at the club.

Recall Arsene Wenger became the manager of Arsenal in 1996 and left the club in 2018 after helping the Gunners to win three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups.

Arsene Wenger’s 3.5-meter bronze statue which was created by sculptor Jim Guy features the retired French tactician holding the Premier League trophy outside the North Bank Stand.

Wenger joins other Arsenal greats like Tony Adams, Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Herbert Chapman, and Ken Friar to own a statue outside the Emirates Stadium.

“Arsene’s contribution to, and achievements with, the club mark him out as the club’s greatest manager”, Arsenal executive vice-chairman Tim Lewis said.

“He treated the club and its supporters to many trophies and fantastic memories and brought a revolution in the running of the club, an unbeaten season, and the move to Emirates Stadium.

“It is fitting, therefore, that as a mark of the club’s enduring respect and gratitude a magnificent statue of Arsene now stands outside Emirates Stadium.”

During his reign at Arsenal, Wenger oversaw 1,235 games, including in the 2003-2004 season in which Arsenal won the Premier League without losing a game.

He took them to the Champions League 20 years in a row and the club stopped qualifying for the tournament immediately after his exit at the end of the 2017-2018 season until last season in which coach Mikel Arteta returned the club to the tournament.

On Wednesday, August 2, Arsene Wenger who is now 73-year-old is expected to be at the Emirates Stadium as a guest of honour when two of his former clubs Arsenal and Monaco play a pre-season friendly game.
