Earlier today, July 23, the world of football was stunned to realize that there is a cheap release clause in the contract between Nigerian-born French midfielder Michael Olise and Crystal Palace.

Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, tweeted earlier today, July 23, 2023, to confirm that Crystal Palace inserted a £35 million release clause on Olise’s contract.

Though the contract will expire on June 30, 2026, the release clause can be triggered this summer by any interested suitor.

According to the transfer expert, Chelsea, and Manchester City have already added Michael Olise to their wanted list but are yet to make an official offer.

The two Premier League giants are still trying to get more clarification about the health condition of Olise who is currently battling a hamstring injury and his return date is still unknown.

On the other hand, RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins claimed that Olise is interested in joining Chelsea this summer and waiting for the Stamford Bridge-based club to trigger the release clause.

Michael Olise who was born to a Nigerian father, Vincent Olise, and an Algerian mother who immigrated to France, started his football career in a British club, Reading.

After a couple of years in the club’s youth system, Olise gained promotion to the club’s senior team on January 1, 2020.

On July 8, 2021, Michael Olise moved to Premier League club, Crystal Palace from the Championship. A season after, he had his big break in the league.

On June 2, 2019, he made his debut for the France Under-18 team, and on March 24, 2022, he made his Under-21 debut for the French team.

Since he is yet to play for the France national team, Olise is eligible to play for Nigeria, France, and his country of birth, England.
