All is not well with Zambia women’s national team as the team’s head coach, Bruce Mwape is said to be under investigation for allegedly having sexual intercourse with his players.

Earlier today, Bruce Mwape and his team arrived in New Zealand, the co-host of the 2023 Women’s World Cup reigniting the scandal which was unearthed by a Guardian report.

The Zambia FA and even the Zambian police reportedly started investigating the head coach after a player of the squad (who has not been named), revealed to the Guardian how the coach usually has sex with the team’s players.

The unnamed female footballer was quoted as saying: “If he [Mwape] wants to sleep with someone, you have to say yes.

“It’s normal that the coach sleeps with the players in our team.”

Despite the allegation, the Zambia FA still allowed the coach to lead the team to the 2023 Women’s World Cup which will commence in New Zealand and Australia from July 20.

When they arrived at their training camp, Mwape refused to address the press when the issue of the sex misconduct scandal was raised.

However, the team’s captain, Barbra Banda, was made to comment on the scandal in the team’s press conference. In her comments, she insisted that her job ends on the pitch and wants to focus on her job.

“I’m not in a position of answering that because I’m just a player, my job is to be on the pitch, not on the technical side,” said Banda.

“Mostly, I think as players our mind is just on the pitch, the rest we leave to the management and whatever comes up it’s up to them. Our job is just to work on the pitch.”

As of the time of filling in this report, the coach nor the Zambian FA was yet to issue a public statement on the scandal.
